Remembrance

Zentralfriedhof [Central Cemetery], Vienna, Old Jewish Section: Detail from the tomb of Jacques Böhm (d. 1915).

Following up on yesterday’s post, it’s always good to see that at least some of the tomb monuments in the Old Jewish Section still have little stones placed on them, left there as markers of recent visits and as signs of remembrance.

The symbol of the blessing hands, found on this headstone, is quite common on Jewish tomb monuments. And yes, that is the very gesture Leonard Nimoy – who was himself Jewish – adopted for the character of Mr. Spock.
